WMATA Rush+

During the summer WMATA has started their Rush+ rail service and thus Orange Line trains will go to Largo Town Center rather than New Carrolton. However Red line trains do NOT have Rush+ service but be in mind that if you do need to get to stations such as Shady Grove or anywhere always look at the train's destination rather than it's line. You will want to keep in mind that train operators will say if this is a Rush+ train at every stop or just final transfer points such as Stadium Armory. Not every train will be a Rush+ train and normal train service will still permit just trains will go to different destinations however the Yellow line may start at Greenbelt and go to Franconia-SpringField but will still use it's own tunnel. However if you use stations in between you will have must more frequent service and trains will move much faster. Leave a comment with any further questions.

WMATA Rail tips introduction

Hello all as TheDougTechCrew stands I help to aid to technical community of their problems on their devices and now I will be introducing a new section to express some of the existing flaws in Metro Rail so as you travel you can ease off the pain when riding.

One thing about Metro Rail is the signs can be wrong or express an incorrect statement like at Union Station (located on the Red Line) says that the Union shops are threw the solid concrete walls and another flaw is it shows that Amtrak Commuter trains are in the same direction as the Union Shops. As TheDougTechCrew I sincerely promise to post once a week on technology and once a week on Wmata news or tips.

HTC Sence 4

Ok I have used the HTC One X for over a month and it was very fast and audio quality was great and so was the battery life. With HTC's new "Sence" it has had tons of tweaks so the user exprience to make it more enjoyable.

However here are the downsides or things that were rather annoying one thing is it seems that multitasking is disabled but a quick fix is to root the phone and install something that can manage the mines and change to something less aggressive like 22 24 30. Now I have a HTC One V as my primary device and noticed that sometimes the phone can stutter a tad bit when running games. With Sence using less RAM it does feel a bit slower than my 600MHZ processor optimus V but it does seem HTC is trying to improve but it does not feel like a giant step but please allow us to turn off Sence in future versions and maybe on the lower end One V maybe used Qualcomms older dual core chip as a single core can feel choppy when using multiple applications.

Now onto the advantages of running the new Sence 4 I have to say that on the One V Sence has been "watered" down for the slower hardware and smaller screen. Now that HTC has dramatically reduced Sence's RAM usage the phone feels fast out the box as opposed to having a custom ROM. One thing that I have noticed is that the stock animations are gone completely which makes the phone feels smoother and much more consistent with the performance.

GSM/UMTS

Only in America are CDMA devices very popular which says a lot as CDMA is constantly ageing. GSM devices have ruled over seas and in domestic areas the best thing about GSM is you can put in a SIM card and continue using your service. However doing that can cause certain features such as HSPA or LTE to not work and as a result the device can be useful or useless.

GSM based devices use HSPA,UMTS,EDGE,GPRS or LTE the huge advantage that GSM has over CDMA is the universal ability to change service providers however some carriers may choose to "lock" their devices to keep it on their network however you can "unlock" by entering an unlock code. Airwaves provide the way for wireless devices to communicate and different frequencies like 850MHZ can talk to 1900MHZ. With that being said you will want to check your device's frequencies and the carrier you want to switch to frequencies as having all frequencies but one can result in having only EDGE. That is the thing that people don't seem to give Apple credit for as the iPad and iPhone have LTE and GSM and CDMA radios and don't disappoint on performance unless it is a bad radio or network if you have Sprint. I personally recommend a world phone that can be unlocked for another network like O2 so if you come to the U.K for example your AT&T phone will use O2 and vise versa. Another thing people don't seem to credit Apple for making a dual CDMA and GSM radio so if you have Verizon or Sprint or any other CDMA carrier you can use a GSM carrier for back up or just left Sprint.

How to use a shared PC

As for some of those times when all you have brought with you is just your smart phone and you need access to a PC. In every techies mind using a public computer can feel as disgusting as a port-a-potty not like dirt everywhere but cluttered with malware, someone not logging out of their email or the most popular someone downloading useless programs and toolbars. In this post I want to show you what to do you avoid those problems and potential risks of your account being taken.

      1. Use safe mode as it does not run excess programs like tool bars so if you know that the PC is free but is bloated give safe mode a try. However the downside to safe mode is that fine tuned malware can still run or block other programs.  To get into safe mode on a Windows PC after the bios has loaded press F8 repeatedly then press enter on safe mode with networking.

       2. Use a virtual environment this is one of the most secure methods of using another PC however if you are using another user account which does not allow executable files this method is useless. One program to use to prevent potential malware is Sandboxie as it runs programs and files in a virtual environment. You should use this method if you are doing potential risky things to prevent the spread onto other computers and prebvent man in the middle attacks
      3. Boot from something other than the boot drive like a DVD or USB drive. Certain Linux distros allow you to boot and try the operating system directly from the drive without even touching another drive. You will want to keep in mind as public computers can have a policy to prevent users from doing this as thus has been said consider your self warned.
